Hardcover in unclipped dustjacket in VERY GOOD++ condition. Prototypes, production, motor sport, tuned Amazons, purchase and maintenance, models, technical specifications, restoration and much much more. 112 pages of great information plus colour and b&w photos, includes pictures of development, experimental, data, and modified and custom show cars. A very thorough model history indeed!

Why buy on ebid.ne t rather than eb@y?

The simple answer is that items are MORE AFFORDABLE!!

Why is that?
(This is a long answer, so get yourself a cuppa, or you can just take my word for it, but the simple answer is there are no, or very little fees for the seller to pass on to the customer).

Eb@y charge their sellers a substantial amount in listing fees, final value fees and other fees for extras. On top of that, eb@y users are now forced to pay by or receive payment using P@yp@l WHICH IS OWNED BY EB@Y. This in turn means sellers have to pay more fees and in the end thier profits go down, or to be fair, let us not use the word profit - the majority of eb@y sellers (or that should be ex-eb@y sellers as many of them are leaving - more on that later)... yes as I was saying let us not use the word profit, the majority of online sellers are individuals trying to earn a living in a VERY competitive market - the word 'profit' has too many connotations of big business.

Now when the takings go down, an individual or a business, needs to claw this money back to stay afloat - the only 'legal' way to do this on eb@y is to either raise the auction start price (to guard against a low final price), or raise the Buy It Now price. The immediate problem here is that customers simply won't buy (one reason many buyers are now turning to ebid.net).

If customers aren't buying because of the prices, sellers are forced to get their fees back by other means. The most obvious is loading the cost of P&P in the hope that customers won't question this. Another way of reclaiming the cost of fees is to add a surcharge for using paypal.

Loading the P&P and surcharging for Paypal are not allowed on eb@y, even though it is perfectly legal for a business or individual to do this, eb@y's laws of self-protection don't allow this.
I can hear a distant chorus of hardened eb@y buyers in the distance chanting "and quite rightly so", but in the long run THE CUSTOMER GENERALLY PAYS THE SAME ANYWAY - the seller has to play swings and roundabouts with his takings to accomodate fees and keep the total price the same for the customer at a cost of reduced takings.

It is better the seller has freedom to set his prices (and any 'surcharges' the way he or she wants), in order that the buyer and seller get the best of a balance in a good deal

To be fair to eb@y, eb@y allows sellers to add 'reasonable' costs for P&P
To be fair to eb@y a small number of sellers take advantage of this and make the P&P cost really high and the start price low to avoid fees, but this 'spoils it for everyone. It results in fee avoidance for the seller - I am NOT condoning this method of keeping fees down, but the buyer usually pays the same or less - however I must stress, I am not condoning fee avoidance

I could go on (eb@y have put even more pressures on sellers), but simply put:

EB4Y SELLERS CAN NO LONGER KEEP THEIR PRICES AT A LEVEL WHICH IS MUTUALLY SUITABLE FOR THEMSELVES AND THEIR CUSTOMERS.

The result is that eb@y sellers are going out of business. Bearing in mind that eb@y is (fast becoming 'was') a favourite place for retail therapy, those who enjoy shopping from the comfort of their own laptop, are now finding less and less to buy on eb@y.

To continue earning a wage, eb@y sellers are now moving over to ebid.net.

Eb@y buyers are now following ex-eb@y sellers over to ebid.net.

Eb@y is a relative desert. The shelves are metaphorically empty.

Why?

Eb@y sellers have HAD ENOUGH!

They are moving over to ebid.net, where they can sell by a variety of means. It is possible to sell on ebid.net WITH NO FEES WHATSOEVER.

The reality is you ONLY pay a 2% final value fee on a picture that ebid hosts for you IF YOU CHOOSE TO DO IT THIS WAY. Anyone with a bit of internet savvy will know that it is easy, easy, peasy to get your pictures hosted for zilch, resulting in NO EBID FEES.

The fees aren't passed on to you, the buyer, 'cos there ain't any (except the 2% picture fee, which most sellers can absorb)

RESULT - Ebid.net is really where a bargain can be had!

Is Ebid.net a safer place to buy?

Yes. Sellers are VERIFIED before being allowed to sell

So should I now buy from ebid.net rather than eb@y?

Absolutely, but BE PATIENT, you may not find everything you want. Ebid.net is still in a period of 'migration' where many ex-eb@y's sellers are building up their ebid listings.

Many ex-eb@y buyers are also fed-up ex-eb@y sellers. Their strategy is:-

If they can't find it on ebid.net, they look for it on eb@y, then....

If the item is found, they message the seller saying they will be prepared to buy it, if the seller is willing to list it on ebid.net.

Everybody wins - the seller doesn't have to pay eb@y's (and p@yp@l's) ridiculous fees and the buyer usually gets a bargain because the seller doesn't have to recoup the fees through the listing price or P&P loading.

I hope you have found this info, from a disgruntled ex-eb@y buyer and seller, very useful.

CB Radio by Leo Sands
This book is a must for the well-established enthusiast who may like to have a nostalgic look back over the CB phenomenon. The newcomer will also learn a thing or two from this book. Although originally published in 1960, this edition is from 1970. Although the book's blurb doesn't say too much about the technical aspects of the book, it does go 'technical' in sufficient detail with chapters on circuits, transmitters, receivers, antennae, PSUs etc. am no technician, but the circuit diagrams would suggest the use of valves, giving the book something special for a particular kind of enthusiast. Hardcover in a jacket, overall condition is VERY GOOD with minor acceptable signs of age.

Monster Fun Annual 1977

Hardcover, spine may be faded, difficult to tell as text is white against yellow. Gutter split at front endpapers, slight thumbtears, about 1cm at the foot of some pages. The puzzles are NOT done. Pages have taken on that slight 'tanned' appearance typical of these old annuals. Aside from stated the book is in clean condition and deserves a near VG rating.

BT Telephone Dialling Codes Southampton Fawley Hythe Issue 4 - Available for sale at ebid
52 page softcover listing dialling codes used for local, national and international from Southampton and surrounding areas, and other relevant telecomms info. No date, but probably after 1981 as I understand this is when the telephone side of the GPO bacame BT, and before the mid 1990s (the code for Soton here is 0703 - it changed to 01703 about mid 1990s). There is a number sequence in the rear of the book "(800) Dd477684 145M 7/82 HP Ltd So'ton G1302" - I would be interested if anyone could enlighten me as to what this refers to, but I have a feeling the 7/82 might mean July 1982, the possible published date of this item??Softcover, VERY GOOD condition.

There is a very slight slackness in the hinges, which is acceptable in a book this size. There is a little damage to the bottom right of spine, which can just about be seen in the pictures above. Includes an attached advertising bookmark. With stated the item is in VERY GOOD condition, with reasonable and acceptable wear for age and stated condition.

I have three of these for sale on ebid, the following description is the one that belongs to the above pictures

Illustrated by CF Tunnicliffe, Hardcover in green cloth, no jacket. copyright page reads First Published in Mcmxlvi (1946?), 2nd impression. The picture above shows the title and facing page, the green book in the image is another copy, used to keep the book flat while photographing this - the actual copy for sale is similar to this, though is showing a little edge rubbing, a little bumping to corners and light scuffing and fading. Below this is the copyright/contents page and, below that an inset of the info from the copyright page. Internally, p89 has a two-inch (5cm) closed thumb-tear leading from the foreedge about a third up, so be careful when you thumb this page open, some of the bottom edges are a little rough cut, the pages are a cream colour and clean. Overall condition, age considered and all stated is near VERY GOOD.

Hardcover in dustjacket, there is a little fading to the jacket spine and the tiniest evidence of a 'wave' to the textblock, otherwise pages are bright, crisp and clean. With stated, overall condition of this book is VERY GOOD++ to NEAR FINE

From left to right: the first image shows the containing folder; the middle image shows the containing folder and the three subfolders each for Marx, Engels and Lenin. The image to the right gives an example set of the images. The text seems to be in Russian.

The Prize for Boys and Girls 1905

Image shows title page and frontis. Below this,the book itself and an example of one of the richly coloured plates. I don't know much about this item, but it would seem this is an annual collection of the year's issues of a child's magazine (The Prize). It is hardcover (no jacket, as issued??) in brown cloth with "The Prize - 1905" to the spine. The front pastedown has a birthday inscription dated Oct 30th 1905, in an old-fashioned hand. RARE Ivor the Engine First Sphere edition 1968

Ivor the Engine memorabilia, like other products of Postgate and Firmin is much sought after, especially the rare items such as this. This was spotted on ebid.net. You might have to search for it as the link sometimes changes.

I have given a rather lengthy description stating the faults, but please note the book isn't in a bad condition, I am just being thorough. Raphael Tuck & Sons Ltd. Approx 9 by 6.5 inches. No year, although there is a gift inscription to front endpaper Xmas 1932. Hardcover. pictorial boards, no jacket, unknown if issued with jacket. The boards are rubbed and worn, have some pencil scribbles and a bit grubby. Spine cloth has split, which can be seen in the picture above, also small inked number to head of spine. Front and rear pastedowns appear to have the residual of a paper tape round the edges, perhaps where the book had a brown paper covering at one time?? Gutter is split at the frontis/title page, as can be seen below. Aside from the frontis and four wonderfully rich colour plates, the book is also illustrated with line drawings throughout, perhaps about a quarter, or less of these have been filled in with crayon (see below), a few pages also have some pencil scribbles. I don't know if any plates are missing. The last page 108 and the advertisements which follow it (4 pages) have some minor damage at the lower gutter. There are some minor faults relevent to the plates which I have described beneath the illustrations below. Over all, age and faults considered the book is useable and averages out to a GOOD rating.

I also sell some of my books from time to time, and this blog is really all about making sure you get a chance to see what is being sold.
The books are sold on ebid.net.
Nothing is sold on ebay because of their behavior.
Paypal is not used either because ebay own paypal.
You are welcome to pay me with either Google Checkout, Moneybookers or PPpay.

Ebid.net are an online auction site. They have been around for a number of years, but now that ebay have shot themselves in the foot ebid.net is getting a large share of their buyers and sellers. Also, paypal is not exactly the best behaved online payment service, when it comes to customer service. I haven't a clue why more people don't use Google Checkout, Moneybookers or PPpay, it can only do good by opening up the options of who you can buy and sell from, with more people refusing to use paypal.
